Enduring Love by Richard Jones

A sequel to Mountain Romance. I think I might have ended my first novella a little abruptly so here's a little more about Red and Mattie's adventure.

Excerpt:
Red said not a word as he continued slowly down the street.
“You deaf or something?” Billy yelled. “Answer me!”
Red was in no mood for conversation and kept moving.
“It’s your funeral, friend,” Billy said as he tried to steady his
pistol for a shot.
Without missing a step, Red drew his Colt and fired a shot that
just missed the toe of Billy’s right foot.
Billy was so surprised he stumbled back and almost fell to the
ground. “Try aiming next time,” he said with a drunken laugh as
he raised his pistol to try another shot.
Red was getting ever closer and fired again coming so near to
Billy’s left ear that the heat of the bullet singed Billy’s skin.
“Are you crazy or just drunk?!” Billy screamed. “You almost
took my ear off.”
Red finally stopped walking and fired his third shot aiming
to ricochet the bullet off Billy’s ornate belt buckle. It was a perfect
shot and sent Billy to the ground with no serious wound, but
struggling to breathe.
Red covered the last few yards to Billy in a trot and stood over
him with his Colt ready, but there was no need. Billy was laid out
gasping for every breath. Taking no chances, Red kicked the pistol
away from Billy’s hand then holstered his Colt and waited for the
young man to recover.
